Henry F. Siedzikowski is Panelist on Law Careers

On April 15, 2010, Elliott Greenleaf’s President Henry F. Siedzikowski returned to his college alma mater to participate in a Panel sponsored by Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA on law careers. The Panel spoke to the students on career paths in the law and how to prepare for them. The Introduction was by Dr. Jack Barlow, Charles A. Dana, Professor of Politics at Juniata College. The Moderator was Kimberly Kitchen, President of the Huntingdon County Bar Association from 2008-2010. The other Panelists were David Andrews from Andrews and Beard in Altoona, Ray Ghaner, a sole Practioner in Huntingdon, PA, Marissa Gunn, a Staff Attorney at the Children’s Law Center in Washington, D.C. and Stephanie Haines, an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Rafael Zahralddin Moderator and Panelist at Hispanic National Bar Association's Inaugural Corporate Counsel Conference

Rafael Zahralddin served as a moderator and panelist at the Hispanic National Bar Association's 2010 Inaugural Corporate Counsel Conference. Mr. Zahralddin's panel was titled "Government Oversight Under the Obama Administration," and was an overview of administrative law under President Obama. Mr. Zahralddin discussed the general change in approach and philosophy by the Obama administration from the Bush Administration towards the administrative law process beginning with the revocation of former President Bush’s Executive Order No. 13422, which increased the power of the White House over the day to day rulemaking of individual agencies and placed a political appointee in each agency to supervise the development of rules and documents. Mr. Zahralddin lead a broad discussion in regard to proposed regulatory reform in the financial industry and in corporate governance, and the encroachment of federal law on state corporate law. Moderating the panel with General Counsel from the Fortune 500 and multi-national retailers, he also discussed internet neutrality and telecommunications regulation; Transparency and Open Government; regulation of product safety; employee issues, especially as they relate to healthcare; and, environmental concerns.

Elliott Greenleaf senior shareholder Tom Elliott is a faculty member at the April 29, 2010 Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s Ethics Potpourri, the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee update.

Mr. Elliott is a former member of the Disciplinary Board of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and lectures frequently on significant legal developments including issues of legal ethics and professional responsibility. In this presentation he will analyze the recent conflict of interest opinion in Delaware Court of Chancery, Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. vs. Airgas, Inc., et al., In the Court of Chancery of the State of Delaware, No. 5249-CC.

Supreme Court Names Bruce L. Castor, Jr. to Blue Ribbon Panel to Analyze the Philadelphia Criminal Court System

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has appointed Firm Shareholder Bruce L. Castor, Jr. to a blue ribbon Panel of twelve Pennsylvania distinguished criminal law experts to study, and effect, a “sea change” for the criminal court system in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Mr. Castor, a current Montgomery County Commissioner, served as the elected District Attorney for Montgomery County from 2000 until 2008. He has tried hundreds of criminal cases, and is nationally recognized for his work in advancing and protecting victim’s rights. Mr. Castor joins former and present judges, and leading prosecutors and defense attorneys to analyze and provide constructive immediate input to improve a city court system which has been charged with “causing criminals to go free”.

Elliott Greenleaf Hosts Patent Law Roundtable on "Hot Topics in the Parallel Universe of Patent Reexamination and Patent Litigation"

On March 26, 2010, Elliott Greenleaf, in conjunction with the Intellectual Property Litigation Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation ("ABA-IPL"), will host a patent law roundtable in the Firm's Wilmington office at 12:30 p.m. on "Hot Topics in the Parallel Universe of Patent Reexamination and Patent Litigation." The roundtable will be moderated by Kenneth (Ken) L. Dorsney, head of the Intellectual Property Department of Elliott Greenleaf's Delaware office. Rafael X. Zahralddin-Aravena, the managing shareholder of the Delaware office, will open the debate about the increasingly complex issues that arise when patents are litigated concurrently with reexamination proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Topics for consideration include ex parte and inter partes reexamination, the length of reexamination, multiple reexamination proceedings, establishing a substantial question of patentability in reexamination when relying on previously cited art, staying litigation pending reexamination, meeting the duty of disclosure in reexamination while complying with protective orders in litigation, reexaminations and willfulness, and In re Bilski impact on subject matter patentability challenges in reexamination.

The Board of Directors of the Montgomery Bar Foundation, a non-profit charity formed twenty-five years ago to support efforts in Eastern Pennsylvania to provide legal services and education to the community, has elected the Firm's shareholder Mark A. Kearney to serve as its Chair and President. The Foundation is managed by a Board of Directors consisting of local banking, charitable and business leaders, as well as three trust and fiduciary lawyers. Mr. Kearney is the first lawyer named to serve as both Chair and President.

A former Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Judge Kauffman addressed the importance of a variety of inner-city programs, as the Symposium focused on the value of different educational programs and structures.

Rafael X. Zahralddin

On October 22, 2009, the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence (DCADV) selected Managing Shareholder of the Firm's Delaware office, Rafael Zahralddin, as one the 15 Leading Men “willing to take a stand against domestic violence” in Delaware. The 15 Leading Men are a diverse group representing the business, legal, faith, media, law enforcement and non-profit communities in Delaware. Among the 15 Leading Men are the Attorney General of Delaware, the Honorable Beau Biden, and the New Castle County Executive, the Honorable Chris Coons. The group participated in the DCADV’s 15th Anniversary and were presented at the event and will be ambassadors for the “15 Ways You Can Help Stop Domestic Violence” campaign.

Dean R. Phillips Presents Legal Education Seminar on New "Fast Track" Appellate Procedures in Superior Court

Elliott Greenleaf shareholder Dean R. Phillips was a featured lecturer for continuing legal education presented to the Bench and Bar of Montgomery County on the new “fast track” appellate rules in cases involving children’s rights. Mr. Phillips joined the Superior Court President Judge Kate Ford Elliott and Superior Court Judge Maureen Lally-Green in discussing these new procedures which take effect in mid-March 2009. In addition to his successful commercial, personal injury and trial practice, Mr. Phillips serves as the Counsel to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania's Appellate Court Procedural Rules Committee and Orphan's Court Procedural Rules Committee, which draft statewide rules of procedure, and make recommendations to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Mark A. Kearney Presents Legal Education Seminar on Evolving Standards of Summary Judgment

Elliott Greenleaf shareholder Mark A. Kearney provided continuing legal education on the evolving Summary Judgment standards in light of upcoming changes to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and the United States Supreme Court’s decision in Twombly last year relating to motions to dismiss. Mr. Kearney, a director of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (the continuing legal education arm of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court), provided a comprehensive analysis of the proposed changes to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 56, as well as likely arguments to be raised on Motions for Summary Judgment in federal and state courts in light of the changing rules.

Rafael Zahralddin

American Bar Association Selects Rafael Zahralddin as One of Six Business Law Ambassadors for 2008-2010

Elliott Greenleaf's Rafael X. Zahralddin has been selected by the American Bar Association's Business Law Section as one of the six Business Law Ambassadors for 2008-2010. Rafael was selected as a Business Law Ambassador as he is an active member of a national bar organization for lawyers of color who has demonstrated a significant interest in an area of business law that coincides with the work of a substantive committee of the Section. Selection as a Business Law Ambassador is intended to be an honor which carries a prestige and distinction reflecting the substantive contributions of a business lawyer who has been active in a national bar organization for lawyers of color. Rafael will continue his work as a mentor and bar leader by being involved in the activities of his respective national bar organization for lawyers of color and identifying substantive areas of common interest in which members and committees of his respective national bar organizations for lawyers of color can coordinate with, and participate in, the work of the Section. He will also coordinate with the Section's Liaison to the ABA Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession efforts to provide broader exposure of the benefits of Section membership to the members of the various national bar organizations for lawyers of color. He will mentor new Business Law Ambassadors and other lawyers of color in the American Bar Association.

Mr. Zahralddin is the Managing Shareholder of the Firm's Delaware office and is the current Chair of the Delaware State Bar's Multi-Cultural Section of Judges and Lawyers, Founding President of the Delaware Hispanic Bar Association and Regional President for the Hispanic National Bar Association for 2008-2009 for Pennsylvania and Delaware. He has been selected as the Business Law Ambassador to the Committee on Business Bankruptcy, in addition to being assigned to the Committee on Business Law Fellows, Ambassadors and Diplomats and the Young Lawyer Forum.

Raymond J. Santarelli is a guest speaker at quarterly meeting of Delaware County Association of Boroughs

Elliott Greenleaf ShareholderRaymond J. Santarelli, was an invited guest speaker at the Delaware County Association of Borough's Quarterly Meeting at Brookhaven Borough Hall in Brookhaven, Pennsylvania. Mr. Santarelli spoke to the membership reagrding Pennsylvania's recent enactment of Act 3 of 2008, which provides for a complete overhaul of Pennsylvania's Right-to-Know law. The Delaware County Association of Boroughs represents the interests of twenty-seven (27) boroughs in Delaware County Pennsylvania.

Mr. Santarelli is a member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly's Joint State Government Committee's Advisory Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution ("ADR"). Mr. Santarelli has been selected to serve on that body's Business, Commercial and Personal Injury ("BCPI") Subcommittee, and is the Team Leader of the "Best Practices Working Group." The subcommittee focuses on the status of ADR services in the Commonwealth, options and uses relating to business, commercial and personal injury issues; developing a plan to educate Pennsylvania citizens regarding ADR, and identifying local and national "best practices."

BILL KELLEHER LEADS RUGBY TEAM TO VICTORY

Elliott Greenleaf shareholder Bill Kelleher, as the senior veteran, led the Philadelphia-Whitemarsh/Wilmington ("PWW") 7s rugby team to victory in the first qualifier for the Mid-Atlantic region, with the season culminating in a championship in early August. Kelleher has been playing rugby for nearly two decades, and has been affiliated with the PWW club for a number of years, where he is club counsel, and is responsible for bringing 7s rugby back to the Wilmington area. Kelleher is also on the board of directors for both Philadelphia-Whitemarsh and the Wilmington Mens Club. Aron Pillard, a paralegal at the Firm’s Wilmington office is currently the captain of the PWW 7s team. Firm Shareholder Rafael Zahralddin is the active President of Philadelphia-Whitemarsh rugby.

During the qualifier match, Kelleher provided strong defense and a steadying hand on the pitch, while Pillard directed play. Winning this tournament placed their team in the top two seeds in the MARFU (Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union) Championship tournament, with hopes to finish as national champions at the National Championship tournament in San Francisco, CA.

Continuing its sponsorship of community events, Elliott Greenleaf sponsored multiple baseball/softball teams throughout Eastern and Northeastern Pennsylvania in 2008, with many of the Firm’s attorneys and professionals serving as managers and coaches for hundreds of aspiring ball players. In addition, Elliott Greenleaf sponsored a touch rugby league for boys and girls in Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware. Nearly 100 boys and girls are participating in Eagle Tag, a touch rugby league where several professional rugby players are coaches and players. In its first year of existence, Holy Redeemer School System consolidated the former Bishop Hoban, Bishop O’Hara, Bishop O’Reilly and Seton Catholic high schools. Jack Dean brings his extensive experience in education law and public service to the Holy Redeemer Board which oversees eleven (11) schools and the education of over 3000 students.

Elliott Greenleaf shareholder Dean R. Phillips was selected to participate in panel presentations to the Mid Annual Conference of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges. At the Conference in Philadelphia from February 21 to 24, 2008, Mr. Phillips spoke on recent developments on practice and procedure for foreign adoptions. He also joined Superior Court Judge Richard Klein, former Superior Court President Judge Joseph Del Sole and Philadelphia Commerce Court Judge Howland Abramson in a panel discussion on Pennsylvania Rule of Appellate Procedure 1925(b). Mr. Phillips, Judge Klein and Judge Abramson will be joined by former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Sandra Newman to discuss the same topic for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and the Philadelphia Bar Association Appellate Practice Committee.
 
Mr. Phillips was also recently asked to speak on appellate practice and procedure along with Superior Court Judges Maureen Lally-Green, Richard Klein and Susan Peikes Gantman at a Montgomery Bar Association Continuing Legal Education program scheduled in conjunction with the Superior Court's special court session in the Montgomery County Courthouse on June 23, 2008.

Elliott Greenleaf shareholder Bruce L. Castor, Jr. was honored with the Louis D. Stefan Award for exemplary state-wide service in law enforcement by the Montgomery Bar Association in January 2008. Mr. Castor, currently a Commissioner of Montgomery County, served as the County’s District Attorney from 1999 until January 2008, and served in the District Attorney’s office from 1986 until January 2008. His practice focuses on commercial litigation and health care, along with internal and compliance investigations for the firm’s clients.

Rafael Zahralddin has recently returned from a presentation and panel discussion at the 1st World Credit and Collections Conference where he provided insight on the U.S. bankruptcy system in a panel entitled "New Challenges for Bankruptcy in International Commerce" with other specialists from Mexico, Canada and Europe.  The conference drew thousands of credit managers, collection professionals and various business professionals interested in cash flow management and expanding market share and sales through credit management from around the globe.  The presentation is being translated into Spanish and will be available soon in both English and Spanish.

Rafael Zahralddin has recently been appointed as Chair of the sponsorship committee for the United States Rugby Super League, the highest level of men's senior club rugby in the United States.  He is currently the RSL representative of the Philadelphia based side which is owned and operated by the Pennsylvania non-profit and 501 (c)(3) Philadelphia Rugby Corporation, Inc. of which he serves as President.  Mr. Zahralddin is also a member of the RSL's Disciplinary Committee.

Furthering the Firm's longstanding commitment to the community, the Firm’s support staff held a holiday luncheon in the Blue Bell office on December 18, 2007 and gathered holiday gifts and donations for the Norristown Ministries Hospitality Center (www.nmihc.com). The Center provides shelter for homeless men, women and children who need emergency care, food and shelter, particularly when other shelters are closed or unavailable. JAMES C. CRUMLISH III ELECTED TO SERVE AS TRUSTEE OF THE NORTHERN HOME FOR CHILDREN
In December 2007, Senior Shareholder James C. Crumlish III was elected to serve as a Trustee of the Northern Home for Children.  The Northern Home, situated in  Philadelphia's Roxborough neighborhood, has served the community since 1853 supporting children and families in distress with education and behavioral health services both in the family setting as well as school and community based settings. MARK A. KEARNEY ELECTED VICE PRESIDENT OF THE MONTGOMERY BAR ASSOCIATION
Elliott Greenleaf shareholder, Mark A. Kearney, has been elected Vice President of the Montgomery Bar Association for 2007. With almost twenty one hundred (2100) members, it is the third largest Bar Association in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Kearney will serve as one of five of the Bar Association’s elected officers, and will be principally responsible for coordinating nationally recognized continuing legal education programs for attorneys in Eastern Pennsylvania. His election continues his service as a leader of the Bench and Bar, including as a Director and Member of the Executive Committee of the Historical Society for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Chairperson of the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians, a fellow of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation, a member of the Taxis Circle and former Director of the Montgomery Bar Association. RAYMOND J. SANTARELLI APPOINTED TO LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE ON ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION
Elliott Greenleaf shareholder Raymond J. Santarelli has been appointed to serve as a member of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Joint State Government Commission’s Advisory Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution (“ADR”), which includes government officials, judges, lawyers, businesspeople, academics, health and human services professionals. The Pennsylvania Senate authorized the task force and the advisory committee, and directed a comprehensive review of the current status of ADR services; identification of best practices in the delivery of ADR services locally and nationally and how to improve conflict resolution; development of a plan to educate the Commonwealth’s citizens concerning conflict resolution in general and ADR services in particular and to ensure public access to ADR services utilizing best practices; and, possibly proposing legislation to implement the proposed plan and to advance the use of innovative conflict resolution methods statewide. Mr. Santarelli and his wife Loretta reside in Delaware County with their three sons.

Elliott Greenleaf's Mark A. Kearney served as the principal speaker and moderator of the September 28, 2006 Symposium sponsored by several business groups in Eastern Pennsylvania, the Montgomery Bar Association and the Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians addressing “Immigration: The Real Issues Behind the Headlines”. Mr. Kearney served as the moderator of this Symposium which attracted over two hundred persons, including many nationally recognized speakers on the issues facing immigration reform in the United States. This symposium was televised in Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Further, Mr. Kearney was profiled on CN8 Newsmakers, including an interview broadcasted throughout the Delaware and Lehigh Valleys in September 2006.

The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce selected Elliott Greenleaf's Melissa Murphy Weber for its 2006 “Women’s Leadership Excellence Award” presented at its Annual Awards Dinner on May 17, 2006.

Before joining the Firm, where she focuses her practice in commercial litigation, Ms. Weber served as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 148th Legislative District, compromising Lower Merion, Whitemarsh, Whitpain, Conshohocken and Narberth. She previously served as Assistant District Attorney in Montgomery County from 1996 to 2002, and tried dozens of jury trials before the Court of Common Pleas and District Justices of Montgomery County. She is a recognized leader in the community, and was recently selected as a “Rising Star” of the Pennsylvania Bar, along with five other members of Elliott Greenleaf.

DEAN PHILLIPS, ESQUIRE PROVIDES LEGAL EDUCATION to ERIE BAR ASSOCIATION
On December 1, 2005, Dean R. Phillips, Esq. will present a seminar on current issues in appellate practice and procedure to the Erie County Bar Association at its annual meeting. This seminar is the next of a continuing series of presentations to County Bar Associations around the Commonwealth that includes a popular interactive "quiz" on recent significant appellate decisions. Mr. Phillips has previously given this presentation to the Chester County Bar Association Bench-Bar Conference, Luzerne County Bar Association Bench-Bar Conference, Bucks County Bar Association and Centre County Bar Association. He also gave the keynote address in April of 2005 at the Municipal Law Symposium to several hundred municipal lawyers and solicitors from around the Commonwealth. He will also be presenting to the Philadelphia Bar Association's Appellate Practice Committee this winter on the Pennsylvania Rules of Appellate Procedure. This will be his second presentation to the Philadelphia Bar Association Appellate Practice Committee. Mr. Phillips focuses his presentations on appellate practice to litigators and appellate practitioners on the pitfalls and waiver traps that can result in lost appeals and waiver of appellate rights.. Mr. Phillips spoke to the Pennsylvania Trial Judges Conference on appellate procedure for judges at the Conference's summer meeting this past July. He is a frequent lecturer at the Conference on this topic. Mr. Phillips will also be presenting legal education seminars this winter at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's Estate Law Institute on current issues in orphans' court practice and procedure.

JAMES C. CRUMLISH, III IS APPONTED A JUDGE PRO TEMPORE IN PHILADELPHIA
James C. Crumlish, III, a shareholder of the Firm, has been appointed to serve as Judge Pro Tempore of the Commerce Court Program of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County. The Commerce Court Program has been widely praised for its progressive and efficient disposition of sophisticated litigation and serves the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Commerce Court. The Program resolves corporate governance disputes, office and director liabilities, business disputes, business torts and intellectual property, trade litigation, business torts, securities and UCC actions, class actions, corporate trust affairs, declaratory judgment as well as business and commercial insurance indemnity claims.

Mr. Crumlish has served both as a public official and as an attorney in public and private practice. His practice is focused on complex commercial trial and appellate litigation. In his newest appointed position as a Judge Pro Tempore , he will serve as a Mediator, Master or such other roles as the Court and/or the Parties may agree or appoint.

BRIAN ELIAS IS APPOINTED TO THE JOINT STATE GOVERNMENT COMMISSION'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON THE CONSUMER CREDIT CODE
The Joint State Government Commission of the Pennsylvania General Assembly has appointed Elliott Greenleaf attorney Brian R. Elias to serve on the Advisory Committee on the Consumer Credit Code. The Committee will study ways to update and modernize various consumer finance legislation and the advisability of merging all such legislation into a consolidated Consumer Credit Code which avoids duplication of Federal law and regulations and promotes uniformity of law among the states.

ELLIOTT GREENLEAF'S DEAN R. PHILLIPS PROVIDES MULTIPLE SEMINARS ON APPELLATE PRACTICE TO THE PENNSYLVANIA BENCH AND BAR
Elliott Greenleaf's Dean R. Phillips combines an active trial practice and extensive public service to the Bench and Bar. He serves as Chief Counsel to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's Appellate Court Procedural Rules Committee and Orphans' Court Procedural Rules Committee. In addition, his litigation skills resulted in very successful settlements for severely and catastrophically injured persons and their families, as well as in wrongful death and survivor cases.

In addition to his very active practice, Mr. Phillips is a leading expert in Pennsylvania on the Pennsylvania appellate rules and trends in the appellate courts. He addressed the Pennsylvania Conference of Trial Judges at its midwinter 2004 meeting on "What Every Judge Should Know about Appellate Procedure." Mr. Phillips addressed the audience of trial judges, along with President Judge Del Sole of the Superior Court, Lehigh County Common Pleas Judge Wallitsch, Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Greenspan and Hon. Robert L. Byer. All Common Pleas Court Judges are members of the Conference and more than 300 Common Pleas Judges from around the Commonwealth attended. Mr. Phillips presented a powerpoint presentation on the following topics: "What Every Trial Judge Should Know about Rule 1925(a) Opinions", "What Every Judge Should Know about Waiver" and a 35 question "Current Developments Quiz" with annotations. He also authored and presented an outline on "Rule 1925(b) statements".

Mr. Phillips also addressed the Orphans' Court Section of the Pennsylvania Trial Judge's Conference at its summer 2003 meeting in Hershey and also gave a presentation to the Pennsylvania Superior Court Judges at their 2003 Heritage Conference.

Mr. Phillips also lectures to Pennsylvania lawyers on appellate issues. He participated as a guest faculty member on February 26, 2004 at a Pennsylvania Bar Institute/Pennsylvania Bar Association sponsored seminar addressing an area of his, and Elliott Greenleaf's particular expertise: "Appellate Advocacy: The Development of a Case in the Appellate Courts." He recently spoke to the Bucks County Bar Association's, Criminal Law Section, on "Current Developments in Criminal Procedure and Appellate Procedure." Mr. Phillips' presentation covered major appellate decisions pertaining to criminal practice and procedure.

A prolific author and lecturer, on March 5, 2004, Mr. Phillips will address the Probate Trust and Real Property Retreat of the Pennsylvania Bar Association in Harrisburg on the topic of "Statewide Orphans' Court Practice, Uniform Forms and E-Filing".

Mr. Phillips also provides significant service to the Courts, including being recently appointed as a Judge Pro Tem by the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Judges Pro Tem hold settlement conferences, and advise the Court on outstanding issues in cases that are near trial.

The check was presented by James Earl Jones. Mr. Phillips accepted it on behalf of Philadelphia Young Playwrights.Philadelphia Young Playwrights is a program that teaches literacy skills in the context of playwriting in Philadelphia and suburban schools. Philadelphia Young Playwrights has been nominated for a 2003 Barrymore Award.Mr. Phillips has worked with children for many years as a former Recreation Director for Penn State University's Summer Speech and Hearing Camp, Director of Camp Anderson Boy Scout Camp, State College Area Chairman of the White House Conference on Children and Youth, Chair of the State College Borough Council's Human Relations Committee and Court appointed Monitor for the Philadelphia School Desegregation Case, PHRC v. Philadelphia School District.
