Family Law
Elliott Greenleaf provides representation to individuals involved in all aspects of Family Law. Our goal is to provide the highest level of representation, while understanding the sensitive and confidential nature of such matters. We work toward quick and amicable resolutions wherever possible but are known, as with all of our lawyers, for our preparation and zealous advocacy.
Led by a nationally recognized family law advocate and skilled trial lawyer, the Family Law Practice Group represents clients throughout Eastern and Central Pennsylvania and Delaware in all aspects of this practice area, including divorce, custody, spousal and child support, alimony, property division, adoption and related matters.
Lawyers in the Group negotiate and prepare premarital, post-marital, and separation agreements tailored to a client's specific circumstances. Attorneys regularly analyze complex financial issues and work with accountants, appraisers, and other professionals to evaluate assets such as businesses, licenses, and professional practices.
With respect to separation and divorce, our representation includes the negotiation and litigation of:
-
The Economic Issues Related to Divorce, Including Equitable Distribution and Alimony.
-
Interim Support Issues related to child support, spousal support and Alimony pendente lite.
-
The drafting of Post-Nuptial Agreements when agreements are reached.
-
The Post-Judgment Enforcement of Agreements and Court Orders.
In addition to the issues related to divorce, our attorneys handle many other types of family law issues, including:
-
The Negotiation and Drafting of Prenuptial Agreements.
-
Custody Issues.
-
Issues Related to the Cohabitation of Unmarried Individuals, including those in Same-Sex Relationships and in Alternative Family Arrangements.
-
Adoptions.
Whenever possible, matters of this nature should be resolved through the negotiation and execution of agreements, and we pride ourselves on being innovative and creative in reaching such resolutions, including through private arbitration. However, where negotiations fail, we stand ready to litigate these issues in the courts throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware.
While we are prepared to handle all levels of domestic relations matters, our clients often are high net worth individuals, including professional athletes, entertainers, entrepreneurs, and their spouses. We are familiar with the myriad of issues which arise in such domestic relations cases, including the valuation of businesses, the division of defined benefit pension plans, and the examination of income of every nature, which may involve the review of retained earnings in closely-held businesses, deferred income plans, and stock options. We work with the most respected experts in the field, including appraisers and accountants, to make certain that we achieve the best possible result for clients, whether through negotiation or litigation. To efficiently represent our clients, we take advantage of the experience and knowledge of other members of the Firm on issues related to partnership, finance, real estate, tax, estate, fiduciary law, appellate practice and corporate matters.
With respect to non-economic issues, we handle custody matters as sensitively and expeditiously as possible. Our goal is to make certain that the best interests of our clients’ children are met. All efforts are made to make certain that children are not put in the middle of custody litigation. However, where litigation is necessary, including related to legal custody (decision making for the child), physical custody (with which parent the child resides), and relocation issues, again we have the courtroom experience necessary to be aggressive and effective advocates.
Our attorneys include a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (www.aaml.org), have held leadership positions within federal, state and local bar associations, and are frequent writers and lecturers on cutting edge topics.
